Digitalya’s culture — a common thread through the years
Since we started in 2014, one thing has been clear: Digitalya’s culture is at the heart of everything we do. Over the past ten years, the voices of our Blueminded Team have all echoed the same message: this is a company where people come first.
We’ve built something special — a place where support, collaboration, and open communication are part of who we are.
Everyone who’s shared their story agrees: what sets Digitalya apart is how much we care about our people. Our core values — Power to the team, We learn together, We help each other, Tech is our playground, and Always seek quality — aren’t just words on a wall. They’re woven into every part of our journey, from the way we hire to how we show up every day.
Here are some of the key elements that our team believes define our culture.
- Hiring with heart
Finding the right cultural fit is as important as finding the right skills. Alex Matei, our UX designer who joined us in 2020, remembers how Ovidiu, one of Digitalya’s founders, made sure every new hire wasn’t just a good match for the role but for the team, too. This focus has helped create a strong, supportive environment that defines Digitalya.
“Nothing feels better than being genuinely welcomed into a new environment,” says Gabriel, one of the newest members of our web development team. “That’s exactly what I experienced when I joined Digitalya.”
- Open feedback and communication
Open and honest communication is valuable. Alex stated that “discussions are productive and constructive” and that he trusts his teammates to provide honest feedback with the best intentions. Gabriel, a newer hire, echoes this sentiment, describing an environment where “all cards were on the table” and everyone is open to listening.
Feedback is used as a tool for personal and professional growth. Irina, one of our tech leads who joined us three years ago, credits the company culture for helping her become more confident in expressing her opinions. She notes that she had learned that “nothing bad will happen when you say what’s on your mind.” Everyone is encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and embrace constructive criticism.
- Transparency
Antonia, another new development team member, appreciates the “transparency in decisions, as well as the fact that everyone contributes to the decisions that impact the whole company.” This fosters a sense of ownership and shared responsibility.
Transparency is a key element in our recruitment process as well. Gabriel highlights that he was given “the full picture of the company from the get-go,” which helped him asses his fit within our organization. This helps people set clear expectations and promotes trust from the outset.
- A strong sense of community
Digitalya isn’t just a place to work—it’s a community. We enjoy spending time together, whether in the office or at our social events. “We have always recruited people who were a perfect fit with our culture,” notes Alex. This plays a role in maintaining a cohesive and harmonious work environment, and this sense of community is not accidental but actively cultivated.
Teo, one of our marketers who joined us in 2021, describes the environment as a “space that allows you to grow, that encourages you to be innovative and creative, with a team that is there for you during work hours but also at the end of the workday.”
Andrei, our longest-standing employee who has been with us since 2014, echoes this sentiment, stating that many of his colleagues are also his friends. The emphasis on building personal relationships beyond work strengthens the sense of community and creates a more supportive and enjoyable work environment.
- Growing while staying true to core values
As the company has grown, we have adapted by introducing more structure—clearer roles, regular meetings, and a feedback process. But despite these changes, Digitalya’s commitment to its core values hasn’t wavered.
Andrei notes that as the company has grown, there has been a greater emphasis on “reinforcing the importance of feedback” and “promoting the values of the company” through regular meetings and structured processes. This proactive approach made sure that our core values were not diluted as the team expanded.
Growth and evolution
Digitalya’s journey shows that growth doesn’t have to mean losing sight of what truly matters — our people and our values. Hearing from our team, it’s clear that even as we’ve grown and evolved, we’ve stayed rooted in the culture that makes Digitalya special, always balancing expansion with staying true to who we are.
Our evolution is a blend of natural growth and smart decision-making:
- Organic progress
Andrei, who started as an intern, has seen Digitalya transform from a small start-up to a full-service digital agency handling complex projects. This natural progression reflects our ability to adapt and embrace new opportunities as they come.
- Strategic focus
At the same time, we’ve made key decisions that shaped our path. Daniel, our COO, discusses focusing on the pharma industry as a game-changer. It helped us build deep expertise in a niche market, which has been a big part of our success.
One of the things we’re most proud of is how we’ve grown our team without losing the close-knit, supportive culture that we’ve had since the beginning.
- Hiring for cultural fit
Irina, one of our tech leads, initially declined a job offer from Digitalya after a successful interview. However, she recalls, “Our interaction was stuck in my head, and I kept thinking about the team’s vibe.” Three months later, she contacted us, and even though there weren’t any open positions in React Native at the time, she accepted to work with a technology she had no prior experience with, driven by the energy she felt during the interview process.
As we’ve grown, we’ve added more structure to help keep things running smoothly, but we’ve never lost the flexibility that makes us who we are. Even with this added structure, we’re still as agile and adaptable as ever. We keep pushing ourselves to innovate, stay ahead of trends, and respond quickly to changes in the digital world.
Looking ahead, one thing remains certain — our values will always be at the heart of everything we do.
Leadership and team dynamics
The team members I spoke with paint a vivid picture of how leadership and collaboration work at Digitalya. It’s clear that here, it’s not about hierarchy or formal titles — it’s about shared responsibility, open communication, and empowering everyone to contribute.
One of our core values, “Power to the team,” reflects our decentralized approach to leadership. Alex Matei and others highlight how decision-making is a team effort. Antonia reinforces this notion, observing that “everyone contributes to the decisions that impact the whole company,” creating “an open medium in which everyone can express their ideas and can openly discuss any subject.”
Leaders as mentors, not bosses
While traditional leadership roles aren’t heavily emphasized, what stands out is the mentor-like role Digialya’s leaders play. Andrei describes his experience with senior team members: “I was always encouraged to say things as they are, to give feedback and have it be taken into consideration; I see a genuine desire in others to see me grow professionally through overcoming challenges with their support.”
Rather than a top-down approach, Digitalya’s leadership fosters growth by guiding and empowering employees.
Team dynamics — built on collaboration, trust, and support
Our team culture is all about collaboration and support, making sure everyone feels valued and encouraged. Irina emphasizes the importance of the people around her, saying they helped her gain confidence in expressing her ideas.
This is echoed by Teo, who describes the team as always willing to help, whether it’s offering support when someone’s feeling overwhelmed or encouraging self-care. Antonia also makes a point of the team welcoming her and making sure she can contribute to the projects right away.
Across the board, our teammates talk about how Digitalya’s focus on well-being, communication, and shared values creates a culture of trust and respect. That trust leads to stronger collaboration, innovation, and the kind of support that helps us all succeed together.
Looking ahead — a future filled with promise
As we look toward the future, it looks promising, with steady growth on the horizon. Our team feels confident about what’s next, knowing that we’ll keep deepening our expertise, empowering our people, and adapting to the ever-changing digital landscape.
Sustainable growth with a focus on culture
One thing that’s clear from everyone on the team is that as Digitalya grows, we’re not going to lose sight of what makes us special. Daniel highlights our goal of “sustainable growth with a focus on company culture,” meaning that as we expand, we’re committed to keeping our core values of trust, collaboration, and support intact.
Deepening expertise in the pharma industry
Digitalya’s strategic focus on the pharmaceutical industry is another key driver of its future success. Daniel outlines plans to “diversify our areas of expertise in the pharma industry and build strategic partnerships.” This allows Digitalya to become a trusted partner in a niche market, positioning the company for sustained success as it deepens its knowledge and expertise in this field.
Our recipe for success — a people-first approach
Our story is one of organic growth, fueled by a deep commitment to its people and a collaborative, empowering culture.
The talk we had with our team shows once again that putting people first can lead to both employee satisfaction and organizational achievements. By creating a workplace rooted in trust, collaboration, and empowerment, we have cultivated a recipe for success that goes far beyond traditional business metrics.
